The Worst Friday

Posted by Nick Milne on April 2, 2010

[I've been inordinately busy during Holy Week, unfortunately, both with school work and with stuff related to both my own journey during this sacred time and that, also, of a friend; regular posting should resume next week, though I've also got a devil of an exam to complete on the 14th and 16th, so we'll see what impact that has on everything too.]

I had words that I intended to post, but none of them seem sufficient in the face of the enormity of the events of which this day is a commemoration.  Jesus was killed, in the worst possible way, for the stupidest possible reasons, by – as Chesterton has pointed out here and there – an unholy coalition of all that was more or less the best in both government and religion at the time.  “Travesty” is an insufficient descriptor.

I have no words to post.  Remember what was done, anticipate what’s coming, and repent.

As has become moderately customary for me, I’ll conclude by posting the heart-rending “Lacrimosa” from Zbigniew Preisner’s Requiem for My Friend.  As I believe I’ve mentioned before when posting this particular clip, I don’t really like the video that has been attached to it, and do not recommend it greatly as viewing.  The important thing is that you listen:

Update: The video should be fixed; it’s not the same one, though the music is still Preisner’s “Lacrimosa,” but the suggestion that the visual components aren’t really important remains in effect.

I’ve got a post set to go up on Sunday automatically.  Long-time readers of this blog may be able to predict its contents.

In the meantime, have a blessed and thoughtful Easter.

Thank you for remembering this sacred time. I couldn’t get the video going, but that’s okay. The title reminds me of Mozart’s “Lacrymosa,” which my choir sings on Good Friday, and which is heartrending in its own way.
